Clement Lecigne của Nhóm phân tích mối đe dọa của Google (TAG) đã phát hiện và báo cáo lỗ hổng có mã CVE-2023-2033 vào ngày 11.4.2023. Nhóm chuyên gia Google TAG đặc biệt chuyên nghiệp trong việc phát hiện và báo cáo các lỗi zero-day bị khai thác trong các cuộc tấn công có chủ đích cao từ các tác nhân đe dọa được tài trợ bởi chính phủ.

Lỗ hổng nghiêm trọng liên quan đến việc nhầm lẫn về loại trong công cụ JavaScript V8 đã được phát hiện. Việc nhầm lẫn này có thể bị khai thác từ xa trên trình duyệt Google Chrome trước phiên bản 112.0.5615.121, cho phép kẻ tấn công thực hiện cuộc tấn công thông qua một trang HTML độc hại.

Mặc dù lỗi này thường được sử dụng bởi các kẻ tấn công để gây ra sự cố trình duyệt bằng cách khai thác và đọc/giữ dữ liệu ngoài giới hạn bộ đệm, nhưng hacker cũng có thể thực thi mã trên các thiết bị bị kiểm soát. Vì mức độ nghiêm trọng của lỗ hổng này, Google đã quyết định hạn chế quyền truy cập vào chi tiết lỗi cho đến khi hầu hết người dùng cập nhật bản vá an toàn.

Có thể Google sẽ tiếp tục hạn chế truy cập nội dung có lỗi bảo mật này do nó có thể nằm trong các thư viện của bên thứ ba hoặc các dự án phụ thuộc vào JavaScript V8 và chưa được vá.
