The topic I received was famous landmarks around the world, so I chose two typical places: the Eiffel Tower and the Great Wall of China.

i. Eiffel Tower.

• Location: Paris, France

• Height: 300 meters (984 feet)

• Construction: Built between 1887 and 1889 by engineer Gustave Eiffel.

→ It was the tallest man-made structure in the world at the time, but now has been replaced by many other structures. And it remains a symbol of French culture and engineering

1.Historical Significance

- Designed as the entrance gateway for the 1889 International Exposition, celebrating the centenary of the French Revolution.

- Initially met with skepticism and opposition due to its unique design, it has since become a beloved symbol of Paris and France.

2. Cultural Impact

- The Eiffel Tower has become a symbol of romance and is frequently featured in films, literature, and art.

- It represents French industrial ingenuity and has inspired countless replicas and similar structures worldwide.

3.Architectural Features

- Made almost entirely of open-lattice wrought iron, showcasing advanced engineering techniques of the time.

- The design includes aesthetic elements, such as semicircular arches at the base, which serve no structural purpose.

-Originally, the Eiffel Tower stood at 300 meters (984 feet) tall. With the addition of antennas, its current height is approximately 330 meters (1,083 feet).

4. Visitor Experience

- The Eiffel Tower is one of the most popular paid attractions in the world, drawing approximately seven million visitors annually.

- In 2022, the tower welcomed around 5.9 million tourists, marking a significant recovery post-pandemic Covid-19.

- It features restaurants, a museum, and the Gustave Eiffel Reception Room for events.

- The tower sparkles every night for five minutes at the start of each hour, a lighting system established in 1985.

- Its lights are often turned on or off to commemorate significant global events.

ii. The Great Wall of China

1. Historical Significance:

The Great Wall was originally conceived by Emperor Qin Shi Huang in the 3rd century B.C. to prevent incursions from nomadic tribes. Its construction involved various dynasties, with the most notable sections built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

2. Construction Timeline:

The wall's construction spanned over 2,000 years, beginning in the Spring and Autumn period (770-476 B.C.) and continuing through the Warring States period (475-221 B.C.) until the end of the Ming Dynasty.

3. Structure and Design:

The Great Wall is not a single wall but a series of walls and fortifications, including beacon towers, barracks, and garrison stations. It was built using various materials, including earth, wood, bricks, and stone, depending on local availability.

4. Cultural Impact:

The Great Wall is a symbol of Chinese civilization and resilience. It has become a major tourist attraction, drawing millions of visitors each year who come to appreciate its historical and architectural significance.

5. Modern Recognition:

In 1987, the Great Wall was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, highlighting its importance as a cultural and historical monument.
